AI and the Rise of “AI Psychosis”
Mustafa Suleyman, head of AI at Microsoft, has raised concerns about a phenomenon he terms “AI psychosis,” warning that it keeps him “awake at night.” Although AI has no human-like consciousness, Suleyman believes that the perception of it as conscious is enough to cause significant societal impact.
“AI psychosis,” a non-clinical term, refers to incidents where individuals become so reliant on AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude that they begin to believe imaginary scenarios have become real. Suleyman warns there is zero evidence of AI consciousness today, but if people perceive AI as conscious, that perception will become their reality.

Important concern. Building AI literacy is just as vital as building the technology itself.
